My First Entry

Four very important events happened last week:

  • I got a new job

I wasn't looking for a new job, I was bored but moderately content where I am. The same company that I turned down prior to getting my current position contacted me again. They figured it had been a year and I was either happy or unhappy at my current job. I'm always open to conversation.

We discussed the position, I went in for an interview with two of the people I would have working under me, and they asked me my price. I named a high one and they said "OK!" Go figure. So, I won't be bored anymore.

  • I finished mending the mainsail cover

Since we took down the mainsail last autumn, the mainsail cover has needed a new zipper. I put it off for the winter and, now that the boat is in the water, waiting at the slip for the mainsail, it needed fixing. I spent Saturday morning putting a new zipper in it. This has been on the back of my mind all winter long. What a relief it is to have it done.

  • I got an "A" on my final exam

I started a computer course online because I was bored at my job. It kept my sanity and my "mental stimulation" (to use a phrase my Mom uses on a regular basis now) active. As long as I was taking computer courses and could do the work at work on my pc, all was good. It's even better when I get a good grade.

  • We went sailing for the first time this season

We've been working on the sailboat for a couple of months now. It needed the bottom re-painted with anti-fouling paint. It also required the inside walls and ceiling scrubbed with a solution of half chorox and half water (mildew). The bow light wasn't working after sitting around this winter so we worked on that. Also, the pump was dead so we replaced with an automatic bilge pump switch. Other than the fact that the boat needs a good scrubbing on the outside, it's ready to go.

We took it out on the Middle River for about three and a half hours on Saturday. It was wonderful. Wind was 5-10 knots and the sun was out. I didn't fall off the boat when I took down the mainsail toward the end, in spite of the 15-20 degree roll from the powerboats' wakes.
